Dudo of Saint-Quentin

c. 965–before 1043 · 11th century

Dudo of Saint-Quentin was a canon from the Vermandois who came to the Norman court as an envoy and, at the request of Richard I and Richard II, wrote a history of the first rulers of Normandy, De moribus et actis primorum Normanniae ducum. Completed around 1015, it gives a celebratory, partly legendary account of Rollo and his successors and is the main source for early Norman history.
