Dugdamme

d. c. 640 BCE · 7th century BCE

Dugdamme was a king of the Cimmerians in the 7th century BCE, known from Assyrian texts and called Lygdamis by Greek writers. He led raids across Anatolia, sacking Sardis and, according to Greek tradition, burning the temple of Artemis at Ephesus, and threatened Assyria under Ashurbanipal. Assyrian texts record that he fell ill and died during a campaign against Assyria around 640 BCE; his son Sandakshatru succeeded him.
