Beauce

The Beauce is a flat, fertile plain of north-central France, between Chartres and Orléans, long known as the granary of France for its wheat. In the Middle Ages much of it lay within the lands of the counts of Blois and Chartres. The spires of Chartres Cathedral rise above it and can be seen across the plain from great distances.
