Chartres
Chartres is a city on the River Eure in northern France, the Gallo-Roman Autricum, chief town of the Carnutes. It later became a seat of the counts of Blois and a centre of learning in the 11th and 12th centuries. Its cathedral, rebuilt after a fire of 1194 with outstanding stained glass, is one of the finest Gothic churches and a World Heritage Site.
