Bilge Qaghan

d. 734 · 8th century · Also known as Bilge

Bilge Qaghan was a ruler of the Second Göktürk Khaganate who consolidated the state in the early eighth century. Under him a single exchange with the Tang emperor Xuanzong produced 100,000 bolts of silk for thirty horses, illustrating Göktürk extraction from China. He died in 734, reportedly poisoned by his own chancellor, and his death helped bring about the collapse of the Gokturk Empire.
