Ötüken
Ötüken is a sacred forested mountain region in central Mongolia, near the Orkhon valley, regarded by early Turkic peoples as the seat of legitimate rule. It was the political heartland of the Turkic khaganates. In 744 CE the Uyghurs, Karluks and Basmyls seized it and killed the last Gokturk qaghan, ending the Gokturk Empire.
