Bingen am Rhein
Bingen am Rhein is a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, at the confluence of the Nahe and the Rhine, where the Rhine Gorge begins. A Roman fort and later a possession of the archbishops of Mainz, it passed to the Grand Duchy of Hesse as part of Rhenish Hesse in 1816. It is associated with the abbess Hildegard of Bingen, who founded her convent on the nearby Rupertsberg.
