Blankenburg (Harz)
Blankenburg is a town on the northern edge of the Harz in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Seat of medieval counts, it passed to the dukes of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, whose junior branch made its large castle a residence and, from 1707 to 1731, the capital of the Principality of Blankenburg. Members of the ducal house of Brunswick, among them Viktoria Luise, daughter of Emperor Wilhelm II, lived there until 1945.
