Brazos Reserve

1854–1859 · 19th century · Also known as Brazos Indian Reservation

The Brazos Reserve was a reservation set up by the State of Texas in 1854–55 on the Brazos River in north-central Texas for the Caddo, Anadarko, Waco, Tonkawa and other peoples. Hostility and attacks from white settlers led to its closure in 1859, when its inhabitants were moved north to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma.
