Bruttium
Bruttium was the ancient name of the toe of Italy, roughly modern Calabria, named after its people, the Bruttii. Its coasts were lined with Greek cities such as Croton, Locri and Rhegion, while the Oscan-speaking Bruttii held the mountainous interior. It was Hannibal's last base in Italy before he left for Africa in 203 BCE.
