Buhen
Buhen was an Egyptian fortress and settlement on the west bank of the Nile near the Second Cataract, in Lower Nubia. Built in its massive form under Senusret I, with mud-brick walls, bastions and a ditch, it controlled the river frontier with Nubia and was reused in the New Kingdom. Excavated in the 1950s and 1960s, it was then flooded by Lake Nasser behind the Aswan High Dam.
