Buto
Buto was an ancient city in the north-western Nile Delta of Egypt, at modern Tell el-Fara'in. Formed from the twin settlements of Pe and Dep, it was in later tradition the capital of the predynastic kingdom of Lower Egypt and the seat of the cobra goddess Wadjet. Excavations have revealed settlement layers of the 4th millennium BCE that gave their name to the Buto-Maadi culture.
