Calamis

fl. c. 470–440 BCE · 5th century BCE

Calamis was a Greek sculptor active in the first half of the 5th century BCE, probably at Athens. Ancient writers praised his statues of horses and gods, including the Sosandra on the Athenian Acropolis. His colossal bronze Apollo, about 13 metres high, stood at Apollonia Pontica on the Black Sea until Marcus Lucullus carried it off to Rome in 72 BCE.
