Cameroon Grassfields

Also known as Bamenda Grassfields, Western High Plateau

The Cameroon Grassfields, or Western High Plateau, are the volcanic highlands of western Cameroon, covering the present North-West and West regions. A densely settled land of farms and savanna, they are home to many kingdoms and chiefdoms, such as Bamum, Bafut, Nso and Bali-Nyonga, ruled by sacred kings called Fons with palace societies, and are known for their wood carving, beadwork and masks.
