Cape Coast

Cape Coast is a port town on the coast of present-day Ghana, in the lands of the Akan kingdom of Fetu. The Swedish Africa Company built Fort Carolusborg there in 1653, which passed through Danish and Dutch hands before the English took it in 1664 and made Cape Coast Castle their headquarters on the Gold Coast. It was a major point of the Atlantic slave trade and the seat of British administration until 1877.
