Chouf
The Chouf is a mountainous region of Mount Lebanon, south-east of Beirut, traditionally the heartland of the Druze community. Its lords, first the Ma'n and then the Shihab emirs, governed Mount Lebanon from towns such as Deir al-Qamar and Beiteddine under Ottoman rule. It remains the base of leading Druze families and is known for its cedar reserve.
