Church of the Holy Apostles, Kars

930s–940s · 10th century · Also known as Kümbet Mosque

The Church of the Holy Apostles is a 10th-century Armenian church in Kars, eastern Turkey, built by King Abas I of Bagratid Armenia between about 930 and 943. A domed tetraconch with reliefs of the twelve apostles on its drum, it served as the cathedral of the Bagratid capital. Converted into a mosque under Ottoman rule, it was a Russian Orthodox church from 1878 to 1918 and is now a mosque again.
