Kars
Kars is a city in north-eastern Turkey, on a high plateau near the Armenian border, dominated by a medieval citadel. It was the capital of Bagratid Armenia in the tenth century and then of the small Kingdom of Kars, and later a contested Ottoman fortress, held by Russia from 1878 to 1918. The Treaty of Kars of 1921 confirmed it as part of Turkey.
