Vanand
Vanand was a historical district of Armenia in the province of Ayrarat, centred on the fortress town of Kars in present-day north-eastern Turkey. Under the Bagratids it became the seat of a separate Armenian kingdom, the Kingdom of Kars, created in 963 when Ashot III granted it to his brother Mushegh. The kingdom lasted until 1065, when its last king ceded it to Byzantium.
