Chuuk Lagoon

Also known as Truk Lagoon

Chuuk Lagoon, formerly Truk, is a large lagoon enclosed by a coral reef in the Caroline Islands, now part of the Federated States of Micronesia. Under Japanese rule it became the main forward base of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Combined Fleet in the Pacific. US carrier aircraft devastated it in Operation Hailstone in February 1944, and the wrecks of dozens of sunken ships now draw divers.
