Cimbri

late 2nd century BCE · 2nd century BCE

The Cimbri were an ancient people, probably from northern Jutland, whose migration with the Teutones and others shook the Roman Republic from 113 BCE. They defeated Roman armies at Noreia and at Arausio in 105 BCE, one of Rome's worst defeats, and wandered through Gaul and Spain before Gaius Marius and Quintus Lutatius Catulus annihilated them at Vercellae in 101 BCE.
