Noreia

Noreia was the chief town of the Norici in the eastern Alps, mentioned by Roman writers but never firmly located. Near it the Cimbri defeated a Roman army under Gnaeus Papirius Carbo in 113 BCE, and Caesar records that the Boii besieged it before joining the Helvetii. It is generally sought in modern Carinthia or Styria in Austria.
