Celje
Celje is the third-largest city of Slovenia, on the Savinja River. As Celeia it was a Celtic settlement and then a Roman town of Noricum, granted municipal status under Emperor Claudius. In the late Middle Ages it was the seat of the powerful Counts of Cilli, whose line died out in 1456. It later formed part of the Habsburg duchy of Styria.
