Communist International

1919–1943 · 20th century · Also known as Comintern, Third International

The Communist International, or Comintern, was the organisation of the world's communist parties founded in Moscow in March 1919 under the leadership of Lenin and the Russian Bolsheviks. It worked for world revolution and directed member parties in line with Soviet policy, training cadres at schools in Moscow; in China it guided the early Communist Party and its alliance with the Kuomintang. Stalin dissolved it in 1943 to reassure his wartime allies.
