Concession of Evoramonte

1834 · 19th century · Also known as Convention of Evoramonte, Convention of Évora-Monte · Part of the Liberal Wars

The Concession of Evoramonte was the agreement of 26 May 1834 that ended the Liberal Wars in Portugal. Defeated by the liberal forces of Pedro IV, the absolutist Miguel I surrendered at Evoramonte in the Alentejo, gave up his claim to the throne and went into permanent exile, receiving a pension in return. It restored Maria II as queen and secured the constitutional monarchy.
