Confederation of the Equator

1824 · 19th century

The Confederation of the Equator was a short-lived republican and separatist revolt in northeastern Brazil in 1824, centred on Pernambuco. It arose in opposition to Emperor Pedro I's centralising constitution. The revolt was suppressed, but it showed the turbulence of the Brazilian Empire's founding decade.
