Couserans

The Couserans is a historic region of the central French Pyrenees, in the upper Salat valley, now in the department of Ariège. Its name comes from the Consoranni, a people of Roman Gaul. It was a diocese with its seat at Saint-Lizier from late antiquity until 1801, and a viscounty in the Middle Ages, with Saint-Girons as its main town.
