Delphic Amphictyony
The Delphic Amphictyony was a religious league of twelve peoples of central and northern Greece that met at Anthela near Thermopylae and at Delphi. It protected the sanctuary of Apollo, ran the Pythian Games and declared the Sacred Wars against those accused of violating the god's property. After 346 BCE it became an instrument of Macedonian policy and later of the Aetolians.
