Pythian Games

582 BCE–4th century CE · 4th century BCE

The Pythian Games were the festival of Apollo at Delphi, one of the four Panhellenic games of ancient Greece. Reorganised by the Amphictyonic League in 582 BCE after the First Sacred War, they were held every four years and, unlike the Olympics, included contests in music and poetry as well as athletics. The victor's prize was a laurel wreath.
