Demetrius of Pharos

d. 214 BCE · 3rd century BCE

Demetrius of Pharos was a Greek ruler of the Adriatic island of Pharos who served the Illyrian queen Teuta and then went over to Rome in the First Illyrian War of 229 BCE, receiving a domain on the coast. His later raids and alliance with Macedon provoked the Second Illyrian War of 219 BCE, in which Rome drove him out. He fled to Philip V of Macedon and was killed attacking Messene in 214 BCE.
