Diawara

The Diawara are a Soninke clan of the western Sahel, found mainly in western Mali around Nioro and Kayes. According to their traditions they came to rule the kingdom of Diarra, replacing the Niakhate, and they remained a leading lineage of the region after the Bambara kingdom of Kaarta rose there in the 18th century.
