Diophantes

late 2nd century BCE · 2nd century BCE

Diophantes, son of Asclepiodorus, was a general from Sinope in the service of Mithridates VI of Pontus. Around 110–107 BCE he led campaigns in the Crimea to defend Chersonesus against the Scythian king Palakus and his Roxolani allies, and he put down the revolt of Saumacus in the Bosporan Kingdom. A decree of Chersonesus honouring him is the main source for these wars.
