Dirk I, Count of Holland
Dirk I (died c. 939) is regarded as the first Count of Holland. In 922 the West Frankish king Charles the Simple granted him land around the church of Egmond, the earliest record of the dynasty's power in the region then called West Frisia. His descendants ruled as counts of Holland until the male line died out in 1299.
