Duncan I of Scotland
Duncan I was king of Scotland from 1034 to 1040, succeeding his maternal grandfather Malcolm II. His father was Crínán, abbot of Dunkeld. A failed siege of Durham in 1039 weakened him, and in 1040 he was killed in battle against Macbeth, mormaer of Moray, who took the throne. His sons Malcolm III and Donald III later ruled, and the line is known as the House of Dunkeld.
