Dvoryanstvo

The dvoryanstvo was the hereditary nobility of the Russian Empire. Originally a service class bound to the tsar, it gained extensive privileges in the eighteenth century, including exemption from compulsory service, and dominated land ownership and the serf economy until the emancipation of 1861.
