Dvin
Dvin was an ancient city of Armenia on the Ararat plain, south of modern Yerevan. Founded as a royal residence in the 4th century, it became the seat of the Sasanian marzpans, of the Armenian catholicos and later of the Arab governors of Arminiya. Several church councils held there shaped the Armenian Church. Earthquakes and invasions ruined it, and it was abandoned after the Mongol conquests of the 13th century.
