Elagabal
Elagabal was the sun god of Emesa, modern Homs, in Roman Syria, worshipped in the form of a black conical stone in a great temple served by the priestly kings of the Emesene dynasty. The emperor Elagabalus, a hereditary priest of the cult, brought the stone to Rome around 219 and made the god the head of the Roman pantheon, but the cult was reversed after his murder in 222.
