Empordà

Also known as Ampurdán

The Empordà is a region of north-eastern Catalonia in Spain, between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, now divided into Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà. It takes its name from the Greek colony of Emporion, later Roman Emporiae, at Empúries on its coast. Its plain was home to the Iberian Indigetes and later formed the medieval County of Empúries.
