Girona

Girona is a city in north-eastern Catalonia, Spain, at the confluence of the Onyar and Ter rivers. The Roman Gerunda, it surrendered to Charlemagne's forces in 785 and became the seat of a county of the Spanish March, later held by the counts of Barcelona. Its medieval Jewish quarter, Gothic cathedral and walls survive, and it withstood several sieges, most famously by the French in 1809.
