Enver Hoxha
Enver Hoxha was the communist ruler of Albania from 1944 until his death in 1985. A founder and first secretary of the Albanian Communist Party in 1941, he led the Partisans to victory in 1944 and built a Stalinist dictatorship. Breaking in turn with Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union and China, he left Albania deeply isolated, and in 1967 he declared it the world's first atheist state.
