Epponina

d. 79 CE · 1st century

Epponina was the wife of Julius Sabinus, a Lingonian nobleman who rebelled against Rome in 70 CE. She hid him in an underground refuge for nine years and bore two sons there. When they were discovered and brought before Vespasian, she pleaded for her husband and was executed with him; Tacitus and Plutarch praised her loyalty.
