Erchanger, Duke of Swabia

d. 917 · 10th century

Erchanger was a Swabian count who led opposition to King Conrad I of East Francia. In 915 he defeated the king's supporters at Wahlwies and was proclaimed Duke of Swabia. He was captured, and on 21 January 917 Conrad had him and his brother Berthold executed. Swabia nevertheless became a stem duchy under Burchard II, recognised by Henry the Fowler in 919.
