Eurypontid dynasty

Also known as Eurypontids

The Eurypontids were the junior of Sparta's two royal houses, reigning alongside the Agiads. They took their name from Eurypon, said to be a grandson of Procles, twin brother of the Agiad founder Eurysthenes, and claimed descent from Heracles. Eurypontid kings included Leotychidas II, Archidamus II, Agesilaus II, Agis III and the reformer Agis IV.
