Heracleidae
The Heracleidae were, in Greek myth, the descendants of the hero Heracles. Their legendary return to the Peloponnese, led by Temenus, Cresphontes and Aristodemus, was used by the Greeks to explain the arrival of the Dorians, who took Argos, Messenia and Laconia. The kings of Sparta, Argos and Macedon claimed descent from them, and the Spartan royal houses traced their lines to Aristodemus's twin sons.
