Eutychius (exarch)
Eutychius was the last Byzantine exarch of Ravenna, governing from the late 720s. He struggled to defend imperial Italy against the Lombards, at times seeking help from the popes, while the dispute over Iconoclasm divided Rome and Constantinople. When the Lombard king Aistulf captured Ravenna in 751, the exarchate came to an end.
