Eva Perón
Eva Perón, known as Evita, was an Argentine actress who married Juan Perón in 1945 and became the most powerful woman in Argentine politics as first lady. Through her foundation she ran a vast programme of social aid, and she championed the women's suffrage law of 1947 and the women's branch of the Peronist party. Her death from cancer at thirty-three made her a lasting popular icon.
