Faro
Faro is a city on the south coast of Portugal, capital of the Algarve. As Roman Ossonoba it was an important port and later a bishopric; under Muslim rule it was known as Santa María de Harun, after the family that held it as a taifa in the 11th century. Afonso III of Portugal took it in 1249, completing the Portuguese conquest of the Algarve.
