Filippo Brunelleschi

1377–1446 · 15th century

Filippo Brunelleschi (1377–1446) was a Florentine architect and engineer, regarded as a founder of Renaissance architecture. His dome of Florence Cathedral, built from 1420 to 1436 without wooden centring, remains the largest masonry dome in the world, and his Ospedale degli Innocenti and church of San Lorenzo revived classical forms. He is also credited with the first demonstration of linear perspective.
