Formula of Concord

1577 · 16th century

The Formula of Concord is a Lutheran confession of faith completed in 1577 to settle the doctrinal disputes that followed Martin Luther's death. Drafted chiefly by Jakob Andreae and Martin Chemnitz with the support of Elector Augustus of Saxony, it was published with earlier confessions in the Book of Concord of 1580 and became the standard of Lutheran orthodoxy in much of Germany.
