Francesco Bussone da Carmagnola
Francesco Bussone, called Carmagnola after his birthplace in Piedmont, was a condottiere who reconquered much of Lombardy for Filippo Maria Visconti, duke of Milan. After falling out with the duke he entered Venetian service in 1425 and defeated the Milanese at Maclodio in 1427. Suspected of treachery after later failures, he was arrested and beheaded in Venice in 1432.
